Dear Valued Guest and Patient at The Smile Enhancement Studio,

Thank you for your patience while you awaited the re-opening of our clinic. We are so excited to be able to welcome you back. As you are most likely aware, on March 16th , 2020, the Provincial Health Officer and the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC) ordered all dental clinics in the province to suspend all non-essential dental services out of an abundance of caution in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this time of closure, a considerable amount of proactive research and planning was done to help prepare dental professionals to meet the new standards of practice that have been developed post COVID-19. Here at The Smile Enhancement Studio, Dr. Burghardt and his team have been busy putting new measures in place and utilizing new equipment to improve the protection and safety of our patients and team. We want to reassure you that since our re-opening, our policies, procedures and equipment exceed the guidelines put forth by the CDSBC, the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and WorksafeBC.

Things will look a little different in the clinic when you return as we strive to keep everyone safe and healthy, here is what you can expect when you come in:

  1. Lighter patient scheduling to aid with social distancing practices. Be prepared to be here a bit longer as we adjust to the policies, procedures and equipment that have been put in place for everyone’s safety. We promise to be as efficient as possible as we value your time.
  2. We will continue to offer teledentistry services to patients that don’t require an in-office visit. Dr. Burghardt and his team are also excited to be offering screening, consultations and treatment presentations using the Zoom App.
  3. If you require an in-office visit, you must book an appointment by phone or e-mail. No walk-in patients will be seen.
  4. When you book your appointment, you will be asked a series of health screening questions. If your appointment is  more than 24 hours away, you will be asked to answer these questions again in your confirmation call, text or e-mail. In addition, your temperature will be taken upon your arrival with our high tech, touchless temperature scanner. An elevated temperature or an incomplete health screen will result in your appointment being re-scheduled. If you are feeling unwell, please call to re-book.
  5. When you arrive for your appointment, please call our office or text (250-274-1541) to let us know that you have arrived. Please remain in your vehicle/outside until you are invited in by one of our team members. This will prevent unnecessary congestion in the reception area.
  6. If at all possible, we ask that loved ones and caregivers do not accompany you inside the clinic. Anyone needing to wait in the reception area will be required to wear a provided mask and exercise social distancing.
  7. Everyone entering and exiting the clinic will be required to use the touchless hand sanitizer dispenser at the entrance. Also, touchless hand sanitizing stations are set up throughout our clinic for patient and staff use. We are also encouraging patients to use your own washroom prior to coming to your appointment as we are hoping to reserve our guests’ washroom for emergencies only to reduce the traffic through this space.
  8. Our office will look a little sparse! We have removed all magazines and items that can harbor or transfer germs of any kind. You will also notice the installation of plexi-glass barriers in our reception area. This separation between our reception staff and patients is an added measure of protection for us all.
  9. Once you are seated in the operatory, you will be asked to do an oral pre-rinse to reduce our clinical staff’s exposure to harmful germs.
  10. Payment arrangements can also be made in advance to avoid delay and allow minimal contact when exiting the clinic.
  11. We are implementing enhanced disinfection procedures of surfaces in the clinic between patients. Routine fogging will be used to access hard to reach places that can be easily missed. We have added new equipment to reduce or eliminate airborne aerosol production during treatments and whenever possible we are choosing to use equipment that does not produce aerosols. Finally, we have installed six state of the art surgical air purifiers that use HEPA filters and UV technology to sterilize all of our clinic’s air several times per hour!
  12. Lastly, we will look a little different. Our team will be using enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) like specialized masks, visors and gowns to provide barriers against the smallest of germs.
